Hoon Kwak
대구 출신의 작가 곽훈의 개인전이 갤러리 신라에서 2007. 5. 22(화) ~ 6. 16(토)까지 개최됩니다. 서울대 미대를 졸업하고 1975년 미국으로 건너가 동양의 정신세계를 담아내는 작업을 통해 미국화단의 주목은 작가로써 물질주의적 주류에 대한 문화적 도전을 제시하고 있습니다. 이번 갤러리 신라에서 선보일 작품들은 캔버스 작업 및 DWG작업등으로 이루어져 있으며 약 30여점의 작품들이 전시됩니다. 부디 많이 오셔서 좋은 시간 가지시기 바랍니다.
곽훈의 그림에서 그러한 과제에 대한 본능적인 관심을 본다. 그리고 그의 그림이 우리의 주의를 끌게 하는 중요한 시점의 하나도 거기에 있지 않은가 생각한다. 여기서 곽훈의 작품에 잠재되어 있는 원초적 생명의 힘에 대한 향수를 디오니소스(Dionysos)적인 것으로 이해하고, 그러한 생명의 힘에 질서와 조화를 부여하는 미적 형성력을 아폴로(Apollo)적인 것으로 보고 논의를 전개할까 한다. 곽훈의 그림을 볼 때 대부분의 작품에서 느껴지는 첫 시각적 인상은 부정형한 화면구성과 전체를 메꾸고 있는 거친 붓터치이다.

Daegu-born artist Kwak Hoon's solo exhibition was held at Gallery Shilla from May 22 (Tue) to June 16 (Sat), 2007. After graduating from the College of Fine Arts at Seoul National University, he moved to the United States in 1975 and, as an artist, presented a cultural challenge to the materialistic mainstream, drawing attention from the American art community through works that capture the spiritual world of the Orient. The works to be shown at Gallery Shilla this time consist of canvas work and DWG work, and about 30 works are exhibited. Please come and have a good time.
In Kwak Hoon's paintings, we see an instinctive interest in such a task. And I think this is one of the important viewpoints that his paintings draw our attention to. Here, should we understand the nostalgia for the primordial power of life latent in Kwak Hoon's work as something of Dionysos, and consider the aesthetic formative power that gives order and harmony to such life force as something of Apollo and develop a discussion? do. When looking at Hoon Kwak's paintings, the first visual impression felt in most of his works is the irregular composition of the screen and the rough brush strokes that fill the whole.
