박종규
Park Jong Kyu
계명대학교 미술대학 서양화과를 졸업 후 파리 국립미술대학(에콜 드 보자르) 졸업한 박종규의 개인전이 2009.6.2(화)~6.27(토)까지 갤러리신라에서 개최 됩니다.
2004년 개인전 이후 국내에서 5년 만에 개최되는 전시로써 작가 박종규의 한층 성숙된 새로운 작업들을 엿볼 수 있게 된다. 2008년 일본 동경에서도 개인전을 가지기도 하였다.
박종규의 작업은 평면과 입체, 과거와 현재와의 관계에 대한 끊임없는 질문을 내던진다. 그로인해 주체가 누구냐에 따라 혹은 어떠한 공간과 상황이냐에 따라 또는 순간순간 변화하는 시간의 흐름에 따라 끊임없이 뒤바뀔 수 있는 상반된 개념들의 관계에 대해 이야기 한다.
평면과 입체 결코 만날 수 없는 평행적 관계인 것과 같이 어떤 주어진 상황을 포기하지 않으면 결코 둘 다 기억할 수 없는 애매한 관계 속에 그의 작업이 존재한다. 사진이란 찍는 순간 과거의 기록물이 되고 인화지라는 평면 조건에 출력되어진다. 또한 사진속의 장면은 지금 이 순간, 이 공간 안에 실재 하지 않는 허상일 뿐이다. 평면의 조건을 가진 과거이자 허상인 사진 속 출력물위에 손에 만져지는 현존하는 오브제가 부착됨으로서 과거의 기록물에는 현재 개념이 이입되고 평면이라는 이차원의 세계는 삼차원의 세계로 변화하게 된다.
상자의 전개도가 보여주는 것처럼 평면 조건의 전개도를 접으면 입체가 될 수 있고 입체는 해체되는 순간 평면으로 돌아간다. 평면과 입체의 아이러니컬한 관계성과 화면 안에 평면과 입체를 공존시키지 못하는 것을 그의 철 작업에서 사각상자로 조합되기 전, 닫혀 지기 전의 상태, 해체되기 전의 상태로 정지시켜 입체와 평면의 어중간한 상태를 보여주기도 했다.
이런 개념의 연장선상에서 이번 전시를 통해 작가는 또 다른 변화를 보여주고자 한다. 어쩌면 좀 더 확대경 같은 도구를 통해서만 볼 수 있는 것처럼 일련의 화면들, 물상들을 확대하고 파고들어 pixel , noise같은 가장 작은 화면을 구성하고 있는 최소단위를 옮겨 놓고 있다.
pixel과 noise의 사전적 의미는 pixel은 디지털 화면의 단위로 표현 할 수 있는 가장 작은 점의 하나 즉 텔레비전이나 전송 사진 등 에서 화면을 구성하고 있는 최소단위의 명암의 점이다. noise는 일반적으로 처리에 필요 하지 않고 바라지 않는 정보를 말한다. 보통은 원치 않는 소리, 즉 소음을 뜻하지만 이때 noise라는 낱말이 반드시 바라지 않는 “소리”만을 뜻하는 것은 아니다. 영상에서의 noise는 전파에 방해를 받거나 수신감도가 좋지 않을 때 아니면 오래된 비디오테이프를 재생 했을 때 화면이 일그러지는 것을 말한다. 최근에는 디지털 카메라 CCD가 디지털 noise의 예라 할 수 있다.
과거에는 외부의 물리적 조작이나 행위를 가함으로서 입체와 평면, 과거와 현재를 보여주려 했다면 이번 전시에서는 평면일수도, 입체일수도, 과거일수도, 현재일수도, 있는 대상을 찾아 들어가 화면으로 옮겨 내는 작업들이다.
noise처럼 의도해서 만들어지는 것이 아닌 자연 발생적으로 나타낼 수 있는 현상을 화면에 옮겨 놓음으로서 새로운 논리적 조건들을 탄생시키려 한다.
이번 갤러리 신라에서 선보일 작품들은 대형작품 15점이 전시된다.

Park Jong Kyu, who graduated from the Department of Western Painting at the College of Fine Arts, Keimyung University, and graduated from the National University of Fine Arts (Ecole de Beaux Arts) in Paris, will hold a solo exhibition at Gallery Shilla from June 2 (Tue) to June 27 (Sat), 2009. This exhibition is held in Korea for the first time in five years since his solo exhibition in 2004, and we can get a glimpse of the new and more mature works of the artist Park Jong Kyu. In 2008, he also had a solo exhibition in Tokyo, Japan.
Jong Kyu Park's work raises endless questions about the relationship between flat and solid, past and present. As a result, it talks about the relationship between contradictory concepts that can be constantly reversed depending on who the subject is, what kind of space and situation, or according to the flow of time that changes moment by moment. His work exists in an ambiguous relationship in which both can never be remembered unless a given situation is given up, just like a parallel relationship in which a plane and a solid can never meet. A photograph becomes a record of the past the moment it is taken, and it is printed on the flat condition of photo paper. Also, the scene in the picture is just an illusion that does not exist in this space at this moment. As existing objects that can be touched by hand are attached to the prints in photographs, which are the past and virtual images with flat conditions, the present concept is transferred to the records of the past, and the two-dimensional world of flatness changes into a three-dimensional world.
As the development of the box shows, if you fold the development of the flat condition, it can become a solid, and the solid returns to the plane the moment it is dismantled. The ironic relationship between the plane and the solid and the inability to coexist between the plane and the solid on the screen are suspended in the state before being combined into a square box, before being closed, and before being dismantled in his steel work, showing an in-between state between the three-dimensional and the plane.
As an extension of this concept, the artist wants to show another change through this exhibition. Perhaps, as if it could only be viewed through a magnifying glass-like tool, a series of screens and objects are enlarged and penetrated to move the smallest units that make up the smallest screen, such as pixels and noise. The dictionary meaning of pixel and noise is that a pixel is one of the smallest points that can be expressed as a unit of a digital screen, that is, the smallest unit of light and shade that constitutes a screen in television or transmission photography. Noise generally refers to information that is not necessary and unwanted for processing. Usually, it means unwanted sound, that is, noise, but the word noise in this case does not necessarily mean only unwanted “sound”. Noise in the image refers to the distortion of the screen when radio waves are disturbed, reception sensitivity is poor, or when an old video tape is played. Recently, digital camera CCD can be an example of digital noise.
In the past, external physical manipulations or actions were applied to show three-dimensional and two-dimensional, past, and present, but in this exhibition, it is possible to find an object that exists, whether it is flat, three-dimensional, past or present, and transfer it to the screen. I try to create new logical conditions by moving a phenomenon that can be expressed naturally, not intentionally, like noise, on the screen. Fifteen large-scale works will be exhibited at Gallery Shilla this time.
