달라붙는 말 Clinging Words
갤러리 신라는 2026년 4월 3일(금)부터 4월 28일(화)까지 개념미술 작가 박창서의 개인전 《달라붙는 말》을 개최합니다.
작가 박창서는 동시대 시각예술을 이해하는 방식과 작품에 대한 역사적 인식이 어떠한 조건 속에서 형성되는지를 지속적으로 질문해 왔다.
이번 전시는 이러한 문제의식을 바탕으로, 관객이 자신의 기억과 사유를 매개로 전시 공간을 경험하도록 구성되었다.
전시장에서는 철가루의 미세한 결정이나 아크릴 물감의 물질성이 다양한 거리와 시점 속에서 관찰될 수 있으며, 이는 단일한 해석에 머물지 않는 감각적•사유적 층위를 열어낸다.
개념을 중심으로 작업하는 예술가에게 중요한 것은, 그 개념이 물질과 분리되지 않은 상태로 제시되는 방식이다. 《달라붙는 말》에서 선보이는 〈달라붙기〉는 철가루나 자석과 같은 물질이 어떻게 의미를 획득하는지에 대해 질문을 던진다.
이 과정에는 정해진 해석의 경로가 존재하지 않으며, 관객은 전시 공간을 거니는 행위 자체를 통해 작품의 의미 형성에 참여하게 된다.이러한 작업은 물질이자 동시에 언어로 작동한다.
박창서의 작업에서 단어는 단순한 기호를 넘어, 물질을 매개로 관객의 인식 속에서 재번역되고 재생산된다. 이때 단어는 작품의 외부로 확장되며, 의미 생성의 가능성을 증식시키는 매개로 기능한다.
작가 박창서는 파리에서 예술학 박사과정을 마친 후, 2016년 갤러리 신라에서 첫 개인전을 개최했으며, 이번 전시는 여섯 번째 개인전입니다. 본 전시는 설치와 회화 작업을 함께 선보입니다. 많은 관람 바랍니다.

Gallery Shilla is pleased to present Clinging Words, a solo exhibition by conceptual artist Chang-Seo Park, on view from April 3 (Fri) to April 28 (Tue), 2026.
Chang-Seo Park has continuously questioned how contemporary visual art is understood and under what conditions historical perceptions of artworks are formed. Based on this line of inquiry, the exhibition is structured to invite viewers to experience the space through their own memory and thought processes.
Within the gallery, the fine particles of iron filings and the materiality of acrylic paint can be observed from varying distances and perspectives, opening up sensory and conceptual layers that resist a single, fixed interpretation.
For an artist working with concepts, what is essential is how those concepts are presented without being separated from materiality. In Clinging Words, the work Clinging raises questions about how materials such as iron filings and magnets come to acquire meaning.
There is no predetermined path of interpretation; instead, viewers participate in the formation of meaning through the very act of moving through the exhibition space.
These works function simultaneously as material and language. The series From Your Memory and Vertere further expand this reversible experience. Viewers encounter words that appear to float in space, perceiving them both as visual images and as physical objects.
In Chang-Seo Park’s practice, words go beyond simple signs; mediated through material, they are retranslated and reproduced within the viewer’s perception. In this process, language extends beyond the work itself and functions as a medium that multiplies the possibilities of meaning.
After completing his doctoral studies in art in Paris, Chang-Seo Park held his first solo exhibition at Gallery Shilla in 2016. This exhibition marks his sixth solo exhibition at the gallery Shilla. The show features both installation and painting works. We warmly invite your visit.
