갤러리신라 대구에서는 2024년 10월 18일부터 11월 17일까지 김용익의 개인전 《숨쿠기와 들나기》 을 개최합니다. 이번 전시는 갤러리신라에서 열리는 작가의 첫 개인전으로 갤러리 신라 대구의 전시장 전관에서 개최됩니다. 특히, 작가의 이번 개인전은 전시장 구성 자체에 김용익 작가의 예술적 메시지를 담아 전달하고자 기획된 전시입니다. 그의 초기 대표작 천 작업을 최근에 재해석한 신작 등을 선보이는 전시가 될 것입니다.
김용익은 1947년 서울에서 태어나 홍익대학교 미술대학 회화과에서 학사와 석사 학위를 받았다. 1999년 대안공간 풀의 창립에 참여하고 2004년부터 2006년까지 대표를 역임하였으며, 1991년부터 2012년까지 경원대학교 회화과 교수로 재직하며 미술교육자로 오랜 기간 활동했다. 주요 개인전으로는 서울시립 미술아카이브 《라스트 제너레이션에게, 김용익》(2023), 뉴욕 티나킴갤러리 《후천개벽을 말하다》(2019), 베를린 바바라 빈 갤러리 《이것은 답이 아니다》(2019), 국제갤러리 《엔드리스 드로잉》(2018), 일민미술관 《가까이... 더 가까이...》(2016) 등이 있으며, 제5회 요코하마 트리엔날레 (2014), 서울시립미술관 《SeMA 중간허리 2012 : 히든 트랙》(2012), 금강자연미술 비엔날레 (2010), 경기도 미술관 《1970-80년대 한국의 역사적 개념미술:팔방미인》(2010), 부산시립미술관 《그리드를 넘어서》(2002) 등 국내외 주요 단체전에 참여했다.
경기도미술관, 금호미술관, 국립현대미술관, 대전시립미술관, 부산시립미술관, 서울시립미술관, 일민미술관, 도쿄도 미술관, 홍콩 M+, 미국 로스앤젤레스 카운티 미술관(LACMA), 로스앤젤레스 현대미술관(MOCA) 등 다수의 주요 기관에 작품이 소장되어 있다.

Gallery Shilla Daegu will hold Kim Yong-ik's solo exhibition, "Breath and Deulnagi" from October 18 to November 17, 2024. This exhibition is the artist's first solo exhibition at Gallery Shilla and will be held in all of Gallery Shilla Daegu's exhibition halls. In particular, this solo exhibition of the artist was planned to convey Kim Yong-ik's artistic message through the exhibition hall itself. It will present new works such as his early representative work, which was recently reinterpreted.
Kim Yong-ik was born in Seoul in 1947 and received his bachelor's and master's degrees in painting from Hongik University's College of Fine Arts. He participated in the founding of Alternative Space Pool in 1999 and served as its director from 2004 to 2006. He also worked as an art educator for a long time as a professor in the Department of Painting at Kyungwon University from 1991 to 2012.
His major solo exhibitions include “To the Last Generation, Kim Yong-ik” (2023) at the Seoul Museum of Art Archive, “Speaking of the Later Heavenly Creation” (2019) at the Tina Kim Gallery in New York, “This is Not the Answer” (2019) at the Barbara Wien Gallery in Berlin, “Endless Drawing” (2018) at the Kukje Gallery, and “Close... Closer...” (2016) at the Ilmin Museum of Art. He has also participated in major group exhibitions at home and abroad, including the 5th Yokohama Triennale (2014), “SeMA Middle Waist 2012: Hidden Track” (2012) at the Seoul Museum of Art, the Geumgang Nature Art Biennale (2010), “Historical Conceptual Art in Korea in the 1970s and 1980s: Eight-Way Beauty” (2010) at the Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art, and “Beyond the Grid” (2002) at the Busan Museum of Art. His works are housed in many major institutions, including Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art, Kumho Museum of Art, National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Daejeon Museum of Art, Busan Museum of Art, Seoul Museum of Art, Ilmin Museum of Art, Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, M+ in Hong Kong, Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) in the United States, and Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Los Angeles.
