키시오 스가
Kishio Suga
일본의 ‘모노하(物派, mono-ha)’ 운동을 이끌었던 중심 작가인 키시오 스가(Kishio Suga)의 개인전이 갤러리 신라 서울관에서 개최됩니다.
이우환과 키시오 스가가 1970년대 초반부터 발표한 글들을 기점으로 일본에서 빠르게 파급되어 일본 현대미술사에서 가장 두드러진 족적을 남긴 모노하는 자연적 재료들 사이의 다양한 관계의 가능성을 조절하여 예술을 단순히 관조의 대상이 아닌 만남의 대상으로 전환한 미술 운동입니다.
키시오 스가는 종래의 미술에 대한 사고와 작품 제작 방식에서 벗어나 거의 가공하지 않은 물(物과 事物, 자연물과 인공물)을 조합해 공간에 배치함으로 사물과 사물, 사물과 장소의 관계에 대한 질문을 던지고, 나아가 ‘그것들을 바라보는 우리들의 관념적 시각에 대한 질문’을 추가해 왔습니다. 키시오 스가는 모노하의 중심적인 존재로서 현재까지 자신의 방법과 사고방식을 엄수하면서 일관되게 작업을 전개해 온 유일한 작가입니다.
이번 전시는 키시오 스가와의 2005년을 시작으로 갤러리 신라에서 7번째로 열리는 개인전입니다. 갤러리 신라는 작가와 인연을 맺게 된 20번째 해를 맞이하여, 20주년 기념 전시를 진행합니다. 이번 전시에서는 2005년 대구에서 선보인 설치 작품을 포함하여 갤러리 신라가 작가와 함께 진행했던 지난 전시들에 관한 자료들도 함께 열람하실 수 있습니다.
갤러리 신라 서울의 신관에서(서울시 종로구 삼청로 111) 진행되는 이번 전시는 오는 2024년 9월 4일부터 10월 19일까지 진행됩니다.

Kishio Suga, a central figure in Japan's “mono-ha” movement, will have a solo exhibition at Gallery Shilla Seoul.
The Mono-ha movement, which began with the writings of Lee Ufan and Kishio Suga in the early 1970s and spread rapidly in Japan, has left one of the most prominent marks in the history of Japanese contemporary art. This art movement coordinated the possibilities of diverse relationships among natural materials and transformed art into an object of encounter rather than merely an object of contemplation.
Kishio Suga breaks away from conventional ways of thinking about art and creating artworks, and by combining almost unprocessed materials (objects and things, natural and artificial) and arranging them in space, he raises questions about the relationship between objects and things, and objects and places, and adds “questions about our conceptual perspective from which we view these things”. Kishio Suga’s work is at the heart of Monoha. Kishio Suga has been a central figure in Monoha and is the only artist who has consistently developed his own methods and ways of thinking up to the present day.
This exhibition marks the artist's seventh solo exhibition at Gallery Shilla, beginning in 2005, since his first solo exhibition. Gallery Shilla is celebrating its 20th year of relationship with the artist and will hold an exhibition to commemorate the 20th anniversary. In this exhibition, you will be able to see the installation work presented in Daegu in 2005, as well as other materials related to Gallery Shilla's past exhibitions with the artist.
This exhibition, which will be held at Gallery Shilla Seoul (111 Samcheong-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul), will run from September 4 to October 19, 2024.
