갤러리신라 대구에서는 2023년 8월 30일부터 10월 07일까지 영국의 미니멀리즘 조각가 레슬리 폭스크롭트의 개인전을 개최합니다.
레슬리 폭스크롭트 (Lesley Foxcroft, 1949 ~ )는 영국 쉐필드 출생으로 Camberwell College of Fine Art에서 공부 하고 1974년부터 영국과 유럽 등 국제적인 미술관과 화랑에서 유수의 개인전과 단체전을 가졌다. 그녀는 MDF와 카드보드지를 소재로 전시 공간과 벽에 설치하는 작업을 해왔다. 이런 일상적 소재인 MDF와 종이 오브젝트를 통해 조각의 재료가 아닌 아티스트의 선택에 의해 조각품의 가치가 부여되는 것을 좋아한다. 조각가이자 설치작가인 레슬리 폭스크롭트는 MDF와 카드보드지를 다양하게 접고, 자르고 누르는 일련의 작업과정을 통해 벽면과 바닥을 연결하여 설치함으로써 이차원적인 조각을 만든다. 그녀는 MDF 작업을 통해, 순수하고 섬세한 형태로 예리하게 재료를 다루고 이를 통해 굉장히 절제되고 정제된 작업을 탄생시킨다. 그것들은 갤러리나 전시 공간 내에서 구조물이나 장식품으로 보이기도 하고 그렇지 않기도 하다. 그러나 그것은 설치된 바닥과 벽의 면까지 확대되어 파괴된 건축학적인 구조적 요소의 느낌을 풍기면서 조각을 넘어 영속적인 힘을 갖게 된다. 언뜻 보기에 단순한 그녀의 작품들을 잘 들여다보면 섬세하게 다듬어진 종이 작업과 과감하고 심플하게 사용된 MDF 작업들이 서로 대조적으로 보이기도 한다. 그녀는 이런 작업들을 통해서 보여준 절개된 면과 정교한 패턴들은 “단순함” 그 자체를 보여준다.
이번 전시는 10월 7일까지 대구와 서울에서 동시에 개최됩니다. 그녀의 대표작품인 MDF Panel 시리즈와 Metal 소재의 신작을 함께 선보일 예정입니다. 50여년간 끊임없이 작업해온 레슬리 폭스크롭트의 개인전에 많은 관심 바랍니다.

Gallery Shilla is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of British minimalist sculptor Lesley Foxcroft at its Daegu location from 30 August to 7 October 2023.
Lesley Foxcroft (1949- ) was born in Sheffield, England, Foxcroft studied at Camberwell College of Fine Art. Since 1974 she has had leading solo and group exhibitions in international museums and galleries in England and Europe. She has installed works on exhibition spaces and walls using MDF and cardboard as materials. Through these everyday materials, she likes to suggest that the value of a sculpture is not given by the material of the sculpture, but by the artist's choice. Sculptor and installation artist Lesley Foxcroft creates a two-dimensional sculpture by connecting and installing the wall and floor through a series of working processes of folding, cutting and pressing MDF and cardboard in various ways. Through her MDF work, she sharply manipulates materials in a pure and delicate form, creating extremely restrained
and refined works. They may or may not look like structures or ornaments within a gallery or exhibition space. However, they extend to the installed floor and the surface of the wall, exuding the feeling of a destroyed architectural structural element, and have a lasting power beyond the sculpture. A closer look at her seemingly simple works reveals a juxtaposition of delicately refined paper works and boldly simple MDF works. The incised sides and elaborate patterns that she showed through these works show 'simplicity' itself.
This exhibition will be held simultaneously in Daegu and Seoul until 7 October. Her solo show will feature her signature works, the MDF panel series as well as new metal works.
