Kishio Suga
일본의 ‘모노하(物派, mono-ha)’ 운동을 이끌었던 중심 작가인 키시오 스가(Kishio Suga)의 국내 최대 규모 개인전이 갤러리 신라 서울관에서 2023년 8월 5일부터 9월 3일까지 개최됩니다.
키시오 스가는 종래의 미술에 대한 사고와 작품 제작 방식에서 벗어나 거의 가공하지 않은 물(物과 事物, 자연물과 인공물)을 조합해 공간에 배치함으로 사물과 사물, 사물과 장소의 관계에 대한 질문을 던지고, 나아가 ‘그것들을 바라보는 우리들의 관념적 시각에 대한 질문’을 추가해 왔습니다. 키시오 스가는 모노하의 중심적인 존재로서 현재까지 자신의 방법과 사고방식을 엄수하면서 일관되게 작업을 전개해 온 유일한 작가입니다. 이번 전시는 작가가 1985년 수화랑에서 한국에서의 첫 개인전을 가진 이후 2005년을 시작으로 갤러리 신라에서 6번째로 열리는 국내 최대 규모 개인전입니다. 갤러리 신라 서울의 구관과 신관 약 200평의 넓은 공간에서 선보일 이번 전시에서는 키시오 스가의 작품 60여 점이 선보일 예정입니다. 1974년부터 2023년까지 다양한 연도의 작품들을 소개하며, 설치 미술, 드로잉, 사진 등 다양한 형식으로 구성된 이번 전시는, 키시오 스가의 작업 세계관 뿐만 아니라 모노하에 대한 깊은 이해를 가능케 할 것입니다.
또한 갤러리 신라가 6명의 필진과 함께 5년에 걸쳐 준비한 모노하 연구서<모노하의 태도들>의 출간 기념회를 이번 전시 동안 갤러리 신라 서울관에서 진행할 예정입니다.
이번 전시를 기획한 이준엽 디렉터는 “키시오 스가의 작품들은 일본 모노하 운동을 이해하는 데 큰 도움이 될 것”이라며, “현대미술의 다양한 시각과 철학적인 관점을 탐구하고자 하는 관람객들에게 깊은 감동을 선사할 것으로 기대된다”라고 전했습니다.
갤러리 신라 서울의 구관(서울시 종로구 삼청로 108)과 신관(서울시 종로구 삼청로 111)의 총 5개 층에서 진행됩니다.

The largest solo exhibition in Korea of Kishio Suga, a central artist in Japan's 'Mono-ha' movement, will be held at Gallery Shilla Seoul from 5 August to 3 September.
Kishio Suga breaks away from the conventional way of thinking about art and producing works, and raises questions about the relationship between objects and objects and objects and places by combining and arranging almost unprocessed things (物 and 事物, natural objects and artificial objects) in a space, adding "questions about our ideological perspective of looking at them". Kishio Suga is the central figure of Mono-ha and the only artist who has consistently developed his work while strictly adhering to his method and way of thinking. This exhibition is the 6th largest solo exhibition in Korea to be held at Shilla Gallery since 2005, following the artist's first solo exhibition in Korea at Soo Gallery in 1985. In this exhibition, about 60 works by Kishio Suga are displayed in a large space of about 7117.44sqm at Gallery Shilla Seoul. It presents works from various years from 1974 to 2023, and consists of various medias such as installation art, drawing, and photography, and will provide a deep understanding of Mono-ha as well as Kishio Suga's worldview of work.
During the exhibition, Gallery Shilla Seoul will also hold a commemorative event for the publication of
"Kishio Suga's works will help us understand the Japanese Mono-ha movement," says Lee Junyop, director of the exhibition, "and “we expect them to impress visitors who want to explore different perspectives and philosophical views of contemporary art."
The exhibition will take place on five floors of Gallery Shilla Seoul's Space 1 (108 Samcheong-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul) and Space 2 (111 Samcheong-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul).
