Ideas and Minimal Art

A space where ideas and minimal art meet

갤러리 신라 대구에서는 2022년 5월 17일부터 6월 12일까지 개관 30주년 기념전 2부 전시로 'Ideas and Minimal Art : A Sp ace Where Ideas and Minimal Art Meet' 전을 개최합니다.

이번 두번째 전시인 ‘Ideas and Minimal Art : A Space Where Ideas and Minimal Art Meet’ 전을 개최하게 되어 기쁘게 생각합니다.

Gallery Shilla Daegu will hold the second part of the 30th anniversary exhibition from May 17th to June 12th, 2022.

Gallery Shilla, which opened on May 18, 1992, celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2022 and is holding a series of exhibitions to commemorate this. The first exhibition received great attention and favorable reviews from many people at home and abroad.

We are delighted to hold the second exhibition, 'Ideas and Minimal Art: A Space Where Ideas and Minimal Art Meet'. The second opening commemorative exhibition held at the Daegu exhibition space is an exhibition that brings together works by foreign artists that have been exhibited at galleries for the past 30 years. When thinking about contemporary overseas art, about 20 carefully selected works by overseas artists occupying the most important position will be exhibited. From the time they exhibited at Gallery Shilla to the present, they have been leading the world art scene, presenting a variety of art genres of their own, including installation, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and drawing. Paintings, sculptures, prints, and drawings by participating artists will be introduced at this opening commemorative exhibition. As archive materials that can deepen the understanding of the artist, exhibition catalogs and exhibition postcards are also introduced.

Exhibition Hall 1, the main space of Gallery Shilla with high ceilings, displays works by Donald Judd, Tadaaki Kuwayama, Niel Toroni, Richard Long, Imi Knoebel, Alan Charnton, and Leslie Foxcrop. The works of the above artists, which are loved by modern people for their minimal works, are important in appreciating the simple characteristics revealed in the work itself, as well as the module represented by the characteristics of minimal art, its repetition, and the relationship with the space placed together.

In Exhibition Room 2, works by Robert Barry, the representative artist of conceptual art, as well as Gerhard Richter, Richard Serra, François Ristory, Nicolas Chardon, Kishio Suga, Maeda Nobuaki, Takashi Suzuki, Maruyama Tomiyaki, Mimo Roselli, and Fred Sandbag will be exhibited. These artists overcome flat painting and show concepts and ideas in space through three-dimensional objects.

The significance of this exhibition is to show the results of our efforts to overcome the geographical limitations of Daegu, where Gallery Shilla is located, and to introduce artists with internationality and universality. It is a great opportunity to meet the works of masters who have led contemporary world art, showing the essence of representative minimal art and conceptual art in the world, all in one place.

Please keep an eye on Gallery Shilla, who strives to become the best gallery without losing its original intention.

We look forward to your visit and interest.
