‘From your memory’ 는 이번 개인전의 제목이자 새롭게 선보이는 신작들의 제목이다. 박창서는 이번 전시에서 이미지와 언어의 관계를 평면 회화 작업들을 통해 선보인다. 언어와 이미지에 대한 질문은 현대 미술의 중요한 주제 중 하나이다. 박창서의 작업은 언어와 이미지의 관계가 필연적이지 않다는 것과 동어반복적이고 일의적이지 않는 다의적이라는 관점에서 출발한다. 이번 작업에서는 회색 구름의 이미지를 스프레이 물감을 이용하여 재현하고 그 재현된 이미지 위에 회색 구름에 관한 글들을 수집하고 편집하여 아크릴 물감으로 적은 작업들을 선보인다. 일시적이고 단명하는 것들에 대한 주제로 지속적으로 작업하고 있는 작가는 붓이 아닌 분사되어 흩어지는 스프레이 물감의 특성을 이용해 매 순간 흩어지고 변하는 구름의 이미지를 재현한다. 굳이 구름을 그리지 않아도 분사되며 흩어지며 자연스럽게 구름이 된다. 우리 모두는 항상 구름을 보지만 그 구름은 언제나 다른 모습으로 변하고 있다. 회색 구름과 회색 하늘(Ciel Gris)에 대해 이야기한 글들을 차용하고 편집한 텍스트를 통해 기억의 보편성과 개별성에 대해 질문하고자 한다.
구름의 이미지와 텍스트가 공존함으로 인해 작품과의 거리에 따라 이미지가 부각되기도 하고 텍스트가 잘 읽히기도 한다. 작가는 이 거리감을 통해 이미지가 언어화되는 과정을 드러낸다. 작가는 이번 작업에서 불어로 쓰여진 텍스트를 주로 사용한다. 오랜 프랑스 생활에서의 경험을 통해 모국어가 아닌 외국어는 그 의미를 알지 못할 때는 의미를 알지 못하는 낯선 기호이미지로 보이지만, 뜻을 알아가면서 점차 익숙한 언어 이미지로 변한다는 점에 주목한다. 마치 흘러가는 구름을 보며 아름답다고 느끼는 그 찰나의 경험이 낯선 언어를 이해하게 되는 경험과 교차된다.
이번 전시에 출품되는 신작회화 10여점을 통해“보는 행위와 읽는 행위의 과정에서 드러나는 일치와 모호함의 공감각적 경험”을 제시한다.

'From your memory' is the title of this solo exhibition as well as the title of new works. Park Chang Seo presents the relationship between image and language through two-dimensional paintings in this exhibition. The question of language and image is one of the important themes of contemporary art. His work starts from the viewpoint that the relationship between language and image is not inevitable and that it is tautological and ambiguous rather than univocal. In this work, the image of gray clouds is reproduced using spray paint, and on the reproduced image, writings about gray clouds are collected and edited, and works written in acrylic paint are presented. The artist, who continues to work with the theme of temporary and short-lived things, reproduces the image of clouds that scatter and change every moment using the characteristics of spray paint, not a brush. Even if you don't have to draw a cloud, it is sprayed and scattered and naturally becomes a cloud. We all see clouds all the time, but the clouds are always changing into different shapes. I would like to question the universality and individuality of memories through texts borrowed and edited from articles about gray clouds and gray skies (Ciel Gris).
Due to the coexistence of the image of the cloud and the text, depending on the distance from the work, the image is highlighted, and the text is read well. Through this sense of distance, the artist reveals the process of verbalizing images. The artist mainly uses texts written in French in this work. Through my experience in France for a long time, I pay attention to the fact that a foreign language that is not my mother tongue looks like an unfamiliar symbol image when I don't know the meaning, but it gradually changes into a familiar language image as I learn the meaning. The momentary experience of feeling beautiful as if watching a flowing cloud intersects with the experience of understanding an unfamiliar language.
Through about 10 new paintings to be exhibited in this exhibition, we present “a synesthetic experience of unity and ambiguity revealed in the process of seeing and reading.”
