exhibition of Park Doo Young (1958~) from June 1 to June 30, 2023.\r\n\r\nThe exhibition consists of works from the early 1980s, when the artist first began his career, and will feature paper works (7 pieces) and reprinted photographs (10 pieces) that have been restored and reproduced over a long period of time about damaged works due to a fire in the studio or other circumstances.\r\nAs a young man, the artist presented fundamental issues such as \u2018what is art and why\u2019 in paper or photographic work. During this period, the artist encountered Eastern and Western ideas such as Wittgenstein, Nelson Goodman, Buddha, and Lao Zhuang, and came to know that \u2018the world comes from the mind, and the mind is dominated by language\u2019. With that attitude, he deeply sympathized with contemporary conceptual art and traditional humanistic values and believed that the path of art and the role of an artist was to look back on and evaluate advanced art and internalize it as one's own value. \r\nThe paper works on display include 1. Sculptures made up of only text (concepts) without physical mass(\uf97e\u584a), 2. Seascapes proposed only with language concepts while hiding images, 3. Consciousness that traces symbols in images, 4. [Page 45] as an information medium or a tool of intellect or a sign(\u8a18\u865f) device that displays a fetish as a capitalist consumer product. As for photographic work, 1. An experiment with the value of art as a result of existential performance, 2. Works that raised issues of connected language and mind in an image. Among them, there are works that confirm the mental value derived from the 'property of the mind' rather than from the sensory object, such as the concept of \u2018Su(\u6578)\u2019, all of which show the artist's curiosity and will as the recognition mechanism and judgement subject underlying art thinking.\r\nSince 1992, Park Doo Young has been working on paintings that repeat complementary color arrangements and striped patterns. These are paintings with very neutral screens that do not depend on traditional formative values, ideologies, or narratives of images. It is so simple that it is not easy to read the implications right away, but the artist has been struggling with this work for at least 30 years.\r\nThe submitted works show the artist's \u2018initial mind(\u521d\u767c\u5fc3)\u2019. The artist says that today's painting exists because of these things. Through these works, it is also meaningful to get a glimpse of the spirit of the times in the 1980s, as well as the anguish and reflection of the so-called [generation after the '70s Contemporary Art Festival'] who were active in Daegu, an important hub of Korean modern art.
