\r\nhttps:\/\/moonpilshim.com\/","press_en":"At Gallery Shilla Daegu, the first exhibition of the new year in 2025 will feature a solo exhibition by the French-based artist Shim Moon-Pil, from January 7 to February 10. \r\n\r\nlived and worked in Paris since moving there in 1990, Shim Moon-Pil is an artist who explores light and space generated through the relationship between color and surface.\r\nSince 1992, his works, which primarily use canvas and plexiglass, are composed of homogeneous yet clear color fields and numerous fine lines that cross the surface. \r\nTo avoid emphasizing the mechanical aspects of drawing (dessin), Shim intentionally draws very fine lines and cuts and rearranges color fields to bring rhythm to the relationship between color and surface. His work offers the viewer a dynamic and open visual experience.\r\n\r\nThe plexiglass surfaces, made using inlay techniques and mother-of-pearl inlay, sometimes appear to exist in three-dimensional space due to the overlap of the painted layers. \r\nThe forms within this layered surface project their unique shadows and color reflections, providing the viewer with a new visual experience. \r\nThese complex techniques gradually evolve into simplified geometric forms, revealing relative monochromaticity. The finely detailed, sharp lines that run through the works are a result of the artist\u2019s experimental approach to painting, challenging boundaries.\r\n\r\nThere is also a coexistence of \u201ccolor boundaries\u201d with sharp outlines and \u201cdiffused boundaries\u201d that appear like shadows or halos of color. \r\nThis intentional deviation seeks to create confusion in geometric perfection. Such ironic interventions are reflected in the title of Shim\u2019s solo exhibition held in Montpellier, France, in 2023 titled \u201c89,80901478\u00b0.\u201d This title hints at how the angles of color and surface in his works may be subtly adjusted or the composition slightly tilted. It naturally and subtly reveals that everything we think we can predict is actually infused with a light ambiguity and playful elements within the artwork.\r\n\r\nShim Moon-Pil was born in Daegu, Korea, in 1958. He currently resides and works in the suburbs of Paris. He has exhibited in South Korea (Daegu and Seoul), Belgium, Luxembourg, Paris, Marseille, Montpellier, and other locations.\r\nHe has also produced sustainable installation works as part of French public art projects. Skilled in lighting technology and color transformation, Shim is an exceptional artist capable of responding subtly to the challenges of contemporary architecture.\r\n\r\n\r\nArtist site : \r\nhttps:\/\/moonpilshim.com\/","source":"","date_label":"","external_url":"","publication_date":"","isbn":"","price":"","dimensions":"","weight":"","pages":"","credit":"","authors":"","description":"","kind":"","contact_html":"","portrait":0,"hero":2601,"biography_pdf":0,"press_pdf":0,"document_pdf":0,"cover":0,"artist_id":0,"inquiry":false,"works":[],"installation":[],"extra":[],"participants":[{"id":46,"name_ko":"","name_en":""},{"id":0,"name_ko":"","name_en":""}]},"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-74","gs_exhibition","type-gs_exhibition","status-publish","hentry"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/galleryshilla.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/gs_exhibition\/74","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/galleryshilla.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/gs_exhibition"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/galleryshilla.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/gs_exhibition"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"https:\/\/galleryshilla.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/gs_exhibition\/74\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":3650,"href":"https:\/\/galleryshilla.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/gs_exhibition\/74\/revisions\/3650"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/galleryshilla.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=74"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
