presents the theoretical basis for Korean modernism. From the 1970s to the early 1990s, the Simultaneity paintings featured flat planes and outlines of four-sided geometric shapes but since the 1990s, Suh has replaced these hard-edged shapes with painterly, soft-edged \u201crectangles\u201d. In Suh\u2019s work, repetition is manifested in the painterly forms and layering of paint. This new approach expanded on the artist\u2019s exploration of visible and invisible reality by creating canvases which appear monochrome from a distance, but upon closer examination are revealed to be composed of a variety of colors. Suh\u2019s ostensibly subdued and quiet paintings are surprisingly evocative, leaving one a sensation of an aesthetic experience.","source":"","date_label":"","external_url":"","publication_date":"","isbn":"","price":"","dimensions":"","weight":"","pages":"","credit":"","authors":"","description":"","kind":"","contact_html":"","portrait":0,"hero":934,"biography_pdf":0,"press_pdf":0,"document_pdf":0,"cover":0,"artist_id":0,"inquiry":false,"works":[{"id":939,"caption":"Simultaneity 14-804, 116.7x90cm, Acrylic on canvas, 2014","alt":"Simultaneity 14-804, 116.7x90cm, Acrylic on canvas, 2014"},{"id":940,"caption":"Simultaneity 16-327, 116.7 x 90.9cm, Acrylic on canvas, 2016","alt":"Simultaneity 16-327, 116.7 x 90.9cm, Acrylic on canvas, 2016"},{"id":941,"caption":"Simultaneity 16-366, 162.2x130.3cm, Acrylic on canvas, 2016","alt":"Simultaneity 16-366, 162.2x130.3cm, Acrylic on canvas, 2016"}],"installation":[{"id":935,"caption":"Suh Seung Won, Installation view, 2016","alt":"Suh Seung Won, Installation view, 2016"},{"id":936,"caption":"Suh Seung Won, Installation view, 2016","alt":"Suh Seung Won, Installation view, 2016"},{"id":937,"caption":"Suh Seung Won, Installation view, 2016","alt":"Suh Seung Won, Installation view, 2016"},{"id":938,"caption":"Suh Seung Won, Installation view, 2016","alt":"Suh Seung Won, Installation view, 2016"}],"extra":[],"participants":[{"id":30,"name_ko":"","name_en":""}]},"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-261","gs_exhibition","type-gs_exhibition","status-publish","hentry"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/galleryshilla.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/gs_exhibition\/261","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/galleryshilla.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/gs_exhibition"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/galleryshilla.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/gs_exhibition"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"https:\/\/galleryshilla.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/gs_exhibition\/261\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":3776,"href":"https:\/\/galleryshilla.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/gs_exhibition\/261\/revisions\/3776"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/galleryshilla.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=261"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
