\r\nThe artist Robert Barry is a leading Conceptual Artist in the 20th century art movements, who is widely known for his works based on language and ideas as non-material works of art. This is his inaugural solo exhibition in the Republic of Korea, opening on 25 May through 25 July, 2018.\r\n\r\nThe exhibition will present prominent and historical pieces that have represented the artist\u2019s career for more than 50 years. The works featured in this exhibition begin in the 1960s and continue through 70s and 80s into the present. The mediums encompass paintings, drawings, wall pieces, sound pieces, video projections, and a site \u2013 specific installation on the gallery walls. Although his choice of mediums is pluralistic, his ideas maintain a clearly unified consistency. Barry\u2019s work has explored meaning through various modes of communication and display. The artist provides viewers with works that suggest the relationship between words and images, words as images, and between words and viewers.\r\n\r\nIn addition, this exhibition presents significant archival materials such as the early discussion between Robert Barry and Robert C. Morgan (1983), it farther includes two old LP diskettes which was exposed at Leo Castelli gallery in 1971, in addition to, drawings, books, magazines, catalogues, posters, and poster cards.\r\n\r\nROBERT BARRY (Born in 1936, New York City) earned a B. F. A. and an M. A. from Hunter College where studied under Robert Motherwell, Tony Smith, and Ray Parker. He was one of the four founding members of Conceptual Art along with Lawrence Weiner, Joseph Kosuth, and Douglas Huebler in the late 1960s. Since his first solo exhibition in 1964, Barry\u2019s work has been exhibited throughout the United States and Europe. He was invited to show in the Paris Biennale, 1971; Documents 5, organized by Harald Szeemann, Kassel, Germany, 1972; the Venice Biennale, 1972, and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, 1974.
