갤러리신라 대구에서 2025년 3월4일부터 4월5일까지 니콜라 샤르동의 세 번째 개인전 『CUTS』를 개최합니다 .
갤러리신라 는 2021년 대구와 2022년 서울에서 열린 전시를 통해 한국 관객들에게 작가의 다양한 작업을 지속적으로 소개해 왔습니다.
동시대 프랑스 현대 회화의 중요한 위치를 차지하고 있는 샤르동은, 모더니스트의 유산을 되새기면서 회화의 표면과 구조의 관계를 탐구하는 독창적인 작가이다.
깅엄 (gingham)이나 체크 무늬 (plaid)와 같은 기하학적 패브릭의 직교 패턴에 긴장을 가하여 만들어진 ‘왜곡된 그리드’의 질서와 ‘수작업’의 예기치 않은 동작이 만나서 창출되는 회화적 공간을 보여주고 있다.
갤러리신라를 위해 특별히 기획된 『CUTS』 전시는, ‘공간과 시간’에 대한 독특한 관계를 보여주는 작품들이다. 파리에서 ‘회화 의 잊혀진 잔여물들’로부터 시작된 이 전시는 한국 대구라는 공간 이동과 기하학적 형태의 변형을 통해 전례 없는 시간성을 만들어내고 있다.
회화를 어떻게 살아 있는 행위로 변화 시킬 수 있는지와, 장소와 재료의 변증법 적 관계를 통해 회화 의 본질을 새롭게 재정의 하려는 시도를 담고
있다. 그는 동시대 회화의 자율성에 관한 역사적인 논의에 명확하고 깊이 있는 해답을 제시하고 있다.
파리 국립고등미술학교 (École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris)에서 학사 과정을 마친 후, 빌라 메디치 (Villa
Medici)에서의 레지던스를 통하여 회화의 전통과 혁신을 추구해 온 그는 , 모더니즘의 전통을 존중하면서도
현대적인 자유를 주장하는 작가로서 굳건한 자리를 확립 하였습니다.
퐁피두 센터 (Centre Pompidou, 프랑스)와 뮈담 (MUDAM, 룩셈부르크)등 세계 주요 미술관에 소장된 그의 작품은,
그가 제시하는 새로운 회화적 언어와 사유가 어떻게 현대 미술에서 중요한 역할을 하고 있는지를 잘 보여 주고 있습니다 .
현재 제네바의 HEAD (예술대학)에서 미술 교수로 재직 중이며 후학들에게 이론적 성찰을 전수하고 있습니다.

Nicolas Chardon (1974) is a major figure in contemporary French painting. His practice revisits modernist legacies, questioning the relationship between surface and structure.
By distorting geometric fabrics such as gingham or plaid through tension, he transforms these patterns into pictorial spaces where the orthogonal order of the grid meets the unexpectedness of the manual gesture.
His work thus engages a subtle reflection on the materiality of the support and the very conditions of the appearance of the painting.
Trained at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris and a resident of the Villa Medici, Chardon is part of a rigorous tradition of painting analysis, while asserting a resolutely contemporary freedom.
His works, present in major collections such as the Centre Pompidou (FR) and the MUDAM (LU), offer lucid responses to historical debates on the autonomy of painting.
A teacher at HEAD in Geneva (CH), he also contributes to transmitting this critical reflection, embodying a rare position: that of an artist-theoretician whose practice is both deeply rooted in history and focused on surpassing it.
His exhibitions in 2021 in Daegu and in 2022 in Seoul offered the Korean public a rich and varied overview, highlighting the multiple facets of his practice.
The CUTS exhibition, on the other hand, is entirely designed for the Shilla gallery in Daegu. Produced in-situ, the paintings in the CUTS series construct a singular relationship to space and time; conceived in Paris from the remains of forgotten paintings, they are reborn in Daegu in a new dynamic.
The characteristic deformations of his geometries inscribe his works in an unprecedented temporality, where each painting becomes both a memory and a reinvention. By playing with architecture and textures, space and grid, CUTS shows how Chardon makes painting a living act, animated by the dialectic of site and material.
