조각가이자 설치작가인 레슬리 폭스크롭트(Lesley Foxcroft, 1949- )는 MDF와 카드보드지를 소재로 전시장 바닥과 벽면에 설치하는 작업을 주로 해왔습니다. 그녀는 조각작품의 가치는 조각소재에 의해 결정되는 것이 아니라 조각가에 의해 결정된다는 던순한 사실을 굳건히 지켜나가고 있습니다. 그녀는 MDF와 카드보드지를 접고 자르고 누르는 다양한 일련의 프로세스를 통해 만들어진 작품을 벽면과 바닥을 연결하여 설치함으로써 이차원적인 조각을 만듭니다. 순수하고 섬세하게 그리고 예리하게 다루는 과정을 거친 MDF 소재는 작가의 절제되고 정제된 작업을 통해 새로운 조각으로 탄생됩니다. 작품이 설치된 바닥과 벽면까지 확대되어 걱축구조적 요소를 보여주면서 조각으로써의 강인하고 영속적인 힘을 표현합니다. 과감하고 심플하게 사용된 MDF 작업들과 섬세하게 다음어진 종이 작업들이 서로 대조적으로 보이기도 합니다. 그러나 작가는 이런 작업들을 통해 공통적으로 나타나는 절개된 면과 정교한 패턴들은 “단순함” 그 자체를 공유하여 보여주고 있습니다.

Lesley Foxcroft(born 1949) is known for her works created in MDF, card and paper. Foxcroft’s use of these ordinary, everyday products, made from the deconstruction of different kinds of wood and fibres, rather than, for example, steel, bronze or marble, is an integral part of her expression as a whole: “I like the idea that the uncomplicated has a purpose: that the material does not give a sculpture its value, it is the artist that does'. By methods of folding, cutting, pressing and stacking Foxcroft arranges the material on the floor and up walls to create a dialogue between the two; her installations thereby make the commonplace aesthetic and the two-dimensional architectural.
