​프랑스 파리에서 20여년간 활동하고 있는 심문필(Shim Moon Pil, 1958-)은 전통 회화의 색과 면의 관계에서 만들어낸 가상의 빛을 시각화하는 작업을 통해 자기만의 리듬적 감각을 보여주고자 하는 작가입니다. 1995년 개최된 전시에는 작가는 자기테이프릐 줄을 이용한 작품들을 통해 직선과 소리 그리고 리듬에 대하여 탐구하였으며 2005년 전시에서는 플렉시글래스를 사용한 다양한 작품을 선보였습니다. 일륙적이고 매끈하게 평쳐진 색면을 가로지르는 아주 가늘거나 좁은 띠로 된 하나 혹은 여러개의 색선으로 구성되어있습니다. 각기 다른 거리를 두고 떨어져있는 이 선들은 단색면을 자르고 조정함으로써 색과 면의 관계에 리듬을 불어넣고 있습니다. 또한 채색된 직사각의 면들도 각각의 지평선들을 따라 역동적이면서 열린감각을 보여줍니다.

Shim Moon Pil was born in Daegu, South Korea, in 1958. Currently living and working in Paris. His artistic approach is based on the alternation between, on one hand - the transparency, sharpness, the introduction of white linearity, the tint area, the colored lines and the plexiglass - and on the other hand the milky atmospheric presence of the white base: indistinct depth, distant and mysterious, which pulls the perception towards a recessed space. These lines, spaced out or close to each other, divide and modulate the tint block, introducing rhythm to the balances of colours and gaps. Which bring an open and dynamic perception to the stability of the rectangular coloured spaces. Moon Pil Shim regularly shows in institutional spaces and private galleries throughout Europe as well as in South Korea. He also works with various architects for whom he makes sculptures that directly relate to their buildings’ aesthetics, to the environment and to the public.
