심문필(Moon-Pil Shim, 1958-)은 20여 년간 프랑스 파리에서 활동해 온 한국 출신의 화가로, 전통 회화의 색과 면의 관계를 바탕으로 가상의 빛을 시각화하는 작업을 통해 독특한 리듬감을 표현하는 작가이다.

그의 작품은 투명하거나 반투명한 아크릴 유리를 활용해, 선과 색면이 미세하게 겹쳐 깊이감과 공간감을 만들어낸다. 

관람객은 작품의 표면 너머에 존재하는 심층적이고 은유적인 공간을 탐험하게 된다. 

1995년 전시에서 심문필은 테이프의 줄을 이용해 직선과 소리, 리듬을 탐구했으며, 2005년 전시에서는 플렉시글래스를 사용한 작품을 선보였다. 

그의 작품은 일륙적이고 매끈하게 평평한 색면을 가로지르는 가늘고 좁은 색선들로 구성되어 있으며, 이 선들은 색과 면의 관계에 리듬을 불어넣는다. 또한, 채색된 직사각형 면들은 역동적이면서 열린 감각을 전달한다.

심문필은 2020년 파리 그랑 팔레에서 열린 'Art Paris' 박람회에 참가해 국제적인 주목을 받았으며, 그의 작품은 프랑스, 룩셈부르크, 벨기에, 한국 등 여러 나라의 갤러리에서 전시되었다.

현재도 활발한 작품 활동을 이어가고 있다.

Moon-Pil Shim (born 1958) is a Korean-born artist based in Paris, France, who has been active for over 20 years. He expresses his unique rhythmic sensibility through works that visualize virtual light based on the relationship between color and form in traditional painting.

His works use transparent or translucent acrylic glass to create subtle overlaps of lines and color planes, adding depth and spatiality.

Viewers are invited to explore the metaphorical space that exists beyond the surface of the artwork. In his 1995 exhibition, Shim explored the relationship between straight lines, sound, and rhythm using strips of tape.

In his 2005 exhibition, he presented various works using Plexiglas. His compositions consist of thin or narrow color lines that cross over smooth, flat color fields, infusing rhythm into the relationship between color and form.

Additionally, the painted rectangular panels convey a dynamic and open sense along different horizons.

Shim gained international attention by participating in the 'Art Paris' fair at the Grand Palais in Paris in 2020. 

His works have been exhibited in galleries in France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Korea, and many other countries. 

He continues to actively pursue his artistic practice.
